Meet Andrea

A young woman sitting on stone steps wearing an orange t-shirt and black shorts, smiling at the camera. In the background, there is a well-manicured lawn and trees, with a historic building visible at the top of the stairs.

This is our temporary home. Time doesn’t stop—it keeps moving forward, and our steps tell a story. The why behind what I do is what motivates me every morning I wake. Through the obstacles I’ve had to overcome, I’ve witnessed the power of storytelling, the importance of building genuine relationships, and the impact of using creativity to lead with intention. Since becoming OCC’s Commencement Speaker, I have remained true to what I value most: people. I am here because of those who have shaped my life in transformative ways. Every step became a puzzle piece, eventually revealing a bigger, more beautiful picture.

After graduating from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, I’ve learned that believing in yourself and truly listening are among the most powerful tools a person can possess. Speaking matters—but knowing when to speak, and why, is what creates impactful communication. Our ability to connect deepens when we develop emotional intelligence and practice true empathy, rather than simply going through the motions.

The moments when I chose bravery over fear are the moments that changed my life most drastically. I’ve learned that overcoming fear is what creates life’s most meaningful experiences. Some of my greatest teachers have been the negative experiences I’ve faced, reminding me that every decision we make affects not only our own lives, but the lives of those we encounter every day. Communication, when used with intention, becomes a tool for growth, impact, and transformation.

Many remarkable people—especially those who have suffered—have played a role in shaping who I am today. Their resilience has inspired me to believe it is never too late, just as I discovered my own life was only beginning. I want to lead by example for those who have lost hope, reminding them they are worth far more than they believe. Life can be difficult, and obstacles are inevitable, but I aspire to be someone who looks beyond herself while inspiring others to live lives that add value to our society.

I am committed to remaining diligent in my service to others—continuing to lead with empathy, purpose, and people at the center of everything I do.
