Sexual Misconduct Allegations

CNN tells the public that there have been numerous allegations of sexual misconduct that have been made by women involving men in entertainment and politics. Beginning with media mogul, Harvey Weinstein, this controversial issue exploded into the public’s view. Since Weinstein, many other powerful men have been accused of sexual assault in various industries, said CNN.

Corporate Communications Marketing Manager of Syracuse, NY, said, “I think it’s really good that people who have been abused or harassed are able to find the courage and support to come forward and start to change that culture and stigma around sexual abuse. I think the discussion should be less about how could all these well respected men have done such awful things, and more about how could we create a culture where it was the norm to look the other way as people were being hurt? How do we break that culture of enabling?”

Redbook magazine invited Harvard Business Review (HBR) to conduct a joint survey on the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. HBR said most people agree on what harassment is, but men and women disagree strongly on how frequently it occurs. HBR said two-thirds of the men, compared with less than one-third of the women, agree with the statement, “The amount of sexual harassment at work is greatly exaggerated.”

“I think it’s really sad that women have to endure so much. I do believe that most of the allegations are true. Sexual abuse is rampant in the U.S., at least that has been my experience with patients in the ER. I’m not sure why it has all come out right now, but it seems like a tidal wave, and so much has been verified. Louis admitted to it, there is the picture of Al Franklin, Roy Moore was confirmed banned from a mall for hitting on young girls as an adult male. It’s really sad,” said Emergency Medicine Resident.

HBR says the majority associate the perceived seriousness of the behavior with the power of the person making the advance. The most prominent discovery on the question of how much abuse actually takes place is the difference in perception between men and women and between high-level and lower-level management, said HBR.

“I feel like it’s getting out of control so much. I get that women are afraid to speak up but come on, it’s one after another after another. Yes, maybe the men being accused did commit those actions, but the attention it’s getting is almost defeating and covering up the whole purpose of what the real issue is. It just seems like a feminist move to me,” said Regional Manager.

Sexual harassment affects both men and women, but data from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) shows more than 83% of cases are brought by women in 2011.

An alumnus of Oswego State University said, “I believe most of the allegations aren’t true. I am left to question why so many women all of a sudden come forward for something that happened 30 years ago. Do I believe some of it is true? Absolutely. People of power think they can do whatever they want, and they need to be punished for what they do wrong. Now, why is it only women that come forward? Why haven’t there been more men who have been abused by women of power? It has to go both ways. I feel that most of it is one sided and most can’t be proven. If there was physical evidence to support their claims, then perfect. It does sadden me that these issues exist in today’s world and people may want to use these as a way to get back at someone for either personal reasons, attention, or because they don’t’ like them. We may never know 100% of the stories.”
